Current Opportunities
Data Intern | Remote, U.S.-based (Eastern Time Zone preferred)

Compensation: $40–$60 per hour (depending on experience and degree level)

What You’ll Be Doing
As a Data Engineering Intern, you’ll be embedded on a project that supports cross-functional teams—many from the National Institutes of Health—as they move AI use cases from early concept to Minimum Viable Product (MVP). These use cases often focus on improving public health or biomedical research. You will:
Assist with preparing, cleaning, and structuring data for AI/ML projects
Support internal teams that may not have dedicated engineering resources
Help build data pipelines and infrastructure for MVP development
Contribute to lightweight research and prototyping of tools and models
Participate in technical knowledge-sharing sessions with federal clients
Learn to communicate engineering challenges clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Work in a collaborative, remote environment with senior consultants and engineers
Contribute to responsible AI practices and documentation
You May Be a Good Fit If You Are…
Pursuing a bachelor’s or a graduate degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Machine Learning, or related field
Comfortable working with Python and data-related libraries (e.g. Pandas, SQLAlchemy, scikit-learn, PyTorch)
Familiar with database systems and cloud environments (e.g. AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Working with IDEs powered by AI such as Cursor.AI
Excited to gain experience in real-world applications of AI

Machine Learning - AI Engineer | Remote (DC, Maryland, Virginia, preferred)
What you’ll be doing
Helping to guide a group of cross-functional teams as they move their use cases from idea to shaping a use case to Minimum Viable Product (MVP). These teams will consist of various members from different institutes or centers of the National Institutes of Health and as such, propose use cases that are typically in the medical research or public health space, for internal or external audiences.
Working with Mind Moves
You’ll collaborate with client leads, business operators, fellow consultants, and the Mind Moves project team—while working closely with world-leading scientists at NIH and Mind Moves. This role offers the chance to:
- Make a measurable impact on scientific discovery and public health.
- Gain hands-on experience with frontier AI/ML technologies.
- Operate at the intersection of health, data, and AI in a creative, mission-driven environment.
The contract will include:
- Deliver ‘knowledge sessions’ to teams to familiarize and give working knowledge to teams
- Assist in data engineering and preparation tasks to enable teams who may not have engineering resources to utilize their data or new data sources
- Rapidly develop proof-of-concept AI prototypes and functional demos to validate use cases, accelerate stakeholder buy-in
- Demonstrate iterative value creation across team capabilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across federal agencies and supporting partners
- Designing solutions with defined requirements
- Innovating ‘outside the box’ while accounting for risk
- Articulate the art of the impossible and lead to the edge of the frontier of innovation
Contractor has the following skills/background:
- 7+ years professional experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI Engineering
- Azure expertise is essential — deep, hands-on experience with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI Service, Azure Cosmos DB, and the M365 ecosystem (Teams, SharePoint, Copilot); general cloud experience is not sufficient
- Production-level RAG implementation — retrieval strategy, relevance ranking, chunking, access-controlled data filtering, and evaluation; this is a non-negotiable core requirement
- Strong GenAI/LLM depth — prompt engineering, model selection and strategy, structured outputs, evaluation frameworks, and guardrails
- Demonstrated experience designing and orchestrating agentic AI workflows using LangChain, AutoGen, or Microsoft Semantic Kernel
- Knowledge graph / graph database experience (Neo4j or Azure Cosmos DB with graph API) — entity modeling, relationship design, query and visualization
- Databricks and MCP integration experience
- Data engineering and ETL — pipeline design, API integration, backend development
- AI governance aligned with NIST AI RMF, NIH/HHS requirements, including human-in-the-loop workflow design and RBAC in federal environments
- Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and SQL
- Background or experience in biomedical, bioinformatics, or life sciences preferred
- Experience taking solutions from proof of concept through MVP to production deployment
- Strong communication skills; ability to lead knowledge sessions with non-technical stakeholders
- Eastern Time Zone required, Maryland/Virginia/DC area preferred
Proposal Details
Compensation range: Proposals accepted from $70-90/hour
Estimated contract duration: 12 months
Contract hours: 40 hours/week
Work locale: 100% remote in the EST required and DC metro area preferred

Timeline and Process
This opportunity has an immediate start date. Priority deadline to submit proposals is April 15th with an ideal start date of April 30th, though proposals are accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

UX/UI Designer | Remote (DC, Maryland, Virginia, preferred)
What you’ll be doing
We are seeking a skilled UX/UI Designer to design and implement engaging, user-friendly digital experiences. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in user-centered design principles, front-end development, and interactive prototyping. You will collaborate with designers, developers, and product teams to create intuitive and visually compelling interfaces for web and mobile applications.
Working with Mind Moves
You’ll collaborate with client leads, business operators, other consultants, and the Mind Moves project team. Interface with world-renowned professionals, make a real difference for scientific discoveries with an opportunity to upskill with concrete experience in the AI space. You’ll be on the leading edge of new tech, in a creative space, shaping and steering future development in health and medicine.
The contract will include:
- Design and develop user interfaces that enhance user experience, accessibility, and engagement.
- Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch.
- Implement responsive and accessible front-end code using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks (React, Vue.js, or Angular).
- Conduct user research, usability testing, and A/B testing to refine designs based on feedback.
- Ensure design consistency and brand alignment across all digital platforms.
- Optimize UI performance and troubleshoot front-end issues.
- Stay current with UX/UI trends, emerging technologies and industry best practices.
Contractor has the following skills/background:
- 3+ years of experience in UX/UI design and front-end development.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end frameworks (React, Vue.js, or Angular).
- Expertise in UX/UI design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD or Sketch.
- Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility standards (WCAG), and usability best practices.
- Proven ability to use your strong communication skills to lead and shape rapid, iterative development processes with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate business and user needs into interactive designs.
- Strong understanding of the transition from wireframes to functional code
- Experience with user research methods, usability testing, and data-driven design decisions.
- Ability to work in an agile development environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with CSS preprocessors (SASS/LESS), design systems, and component libraries.
- A portfolio of work that speaks for itself in both quality and innovation
- Familiarity with backend technologies and API integration.
- Knowledge of motion design, micro-interactions, or front-end animation frameworks.
- Some familiarity with AI products and services
- Previous experience in healthcare, government, or enterprise software UX/UI development is preferred

Contract Details
- Compensation range: Proposals accepted from $60-80/hour
- Estimated hours: 400 hours; 10-15 hrs/week for 6 months with the possibility of extension contingent on future project needs
