Inclusive Training Design for a Global Audience

The Challenge

The largest infrastructure firm in the world needed to implement training for 90,000 globally dispersed employees to learn a new system and process. Upon an initial assessment, instructor-led training was deemed the most effective but cost an astronomical amount to bring together teams that were geographically distributed. Leadership asked for alternative approaches to reduce cost yet maintain the same level of training efficacy.

Our Solution

A team of experts was consulted to formulate three options that incorporated a blend of approaches: instructor led training, web-based learning and interactive workshops. Attributes such as quality, cost, ease and disruption were compared across the options and tweaked with input from leadership. Finally, a pilot was conducted to ensure web-based learning and interactive workshops were sufficient.

Results

The pilot proved that web-based learning and interactive workshops allowed busy employees to move at their own pace and learn effectively.  Not only were the training objectives met, but the company saved nearly $6,000,000 dollars.
