The Challenge
To remain competitive in the market, a large civil engineering infrastructure company launched a global strategic initiative to reduce operating costs by transitioning certain types of engineering work to Global Design Centers located in low-cost labor regions – China, India and Eastern Europe. Hundreds of employees in the USA would be asked to do their work differently. The initiative offered an opportunity for USA-based employees to focus less on mundane drafting work and more on creative design with clients.
Our Solution
Strategy consultants, senior executives and functional representatives from around the globe collaborated to develop a shared vision and understanding of the new strategy. Numerous stakeholder interviews were conducted to hone key messaging and tailor communications by audience. In conjunction, a detailed assessment of how this change impacted process, systems and people informed the implementation approach and plan.
Results
With a solid plan and team in place, the project was executed in record time. Global Design Centers were launched as centers of excellence for key functions, processes, and services resulting in organizational efficiencies while maintaining a robust talent management strategy.
